Srinagar, Dec 19 (IANS) Police said on Tuesday that the two militants killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district were responsible for the murder of two bank guards on December 11.
Two militants and a woman were killed in Batmuran village of Shopian district during an operation against militants by the security forces.
Nine protesters were injured in clashes with the security forces near the gunfight site.
"Two Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants were killed in the encounter, who were identified as Tanveer Ahmad from Batmuran village and Ali alias Qari who was a foreign militant. Two security personnel which includes one soldier and a police personnel were injured during the encounter, a police spokesperson told media.
"The third militant fled from the encounter site by taking advantage of darkness.
The slain JeM militants had killed two bank guards in Shopian district on December 11.
"During cross-firing, one woman identified as Ruby Jan of Batmuran village got critically injured. She later succumbed to injuries at district hospital, Pulwama.
