Gandhinagar, Dec 19 (IANS) Even before he is sworn in as an MLA, newly elected Gujarat legislator Jignesh Mevani on Tuesday told the Collector in Palanpur to set right damaged roads in the area within a fortnight or face protests.
The Independent candidate and Dalit leader, who was backed by the Congress, approached the Collector a day after the Gujarat Assembly election results came out. Mevani defeated the BJP rival by 19,696 votes.
Elected from Vadgam, Mevani approached the top official and submitted a memorandum.
"I am presenting these issues which I experienced during my visit to Vadgam village which need to be addressed immediately. I present it as a normal citizen and also as an MLA," he said.
"Please have these issues resolved and please see that I don't have to take these roads again."
Mevani warned the authorities that if these issues were not taken up within 15 days, he would take on to the streets.
Mevani is the first Independent to win Assembly elections from Vadgam. The Congress withdrew its candidate in his support.
