Bhubaneswar, Dec 18 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday urged the Centre for early release of a commemorative postage stamp on the Paika Rebellion.
"I would request you to kindly initiate necessary steps for early release of the commemorative postage stamp," said the Chief Minister in a letter to Union Minister of Communications Manoj Sinha.
Patnaik informed that the state government is celebrating the bi-centenary of Paika Rebellion in a grand manner, befitting its rightful place in the history of India's freedom struggle.
The Paik Rebellion was an armed rebellion against the British East India Company's rule in Odisha in 1817.
The Chief Minister said the state government has given a proposal to the Centre to release a commemorative postage stamp in the memory of this historic revolt on the occasion of its bi-centenary.
