Sao Paulo (Brazil), Dec 16 (IANS) Olympic gold medal-winning goalkeeper Weverton has joined nine-time Brazilian Serie A champions Palmeiras, the club has announced.
Weverton signed a five-year contract, the local football giants said on Friday after an agreement with his former club Atletico Paranaense, reports Xinhua news agency.
The 30-year-old was Brazil's first-choice goalkeeper at the 2014 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as one of three players in the squad over the age of 23.
"(He) was one of the standouts for Brazil, especially in the final against Germany when he saved the last spot-kick," Palmeiras said in a statement on their official website.
In addition to Weverton, Palmeiras have also signed defender Emerson Santos, full-back Diogo Barbosa and midfielder Lucas Lima in the past two weeks.
