Madrid, Dec 15 (IANS) Spain's prime minister Mariano Rajoy on Friday said he was confident that the Spanish national team would take part in the 2018 World Cup, despite reports of potential exclusion.
Local media reported that FIFA sent the Spanish football federation a letter warning of potential suspension due to alleged governmental interference, reports Efe.
"This is not a scenario I consider, and I am absolutely convinced that Spain will participate in the World Cup and will win it," Rajoy said.
Rajoy said no official letter to that end had been received by the sport's ministry.
The year-long suspension of Spanish football federation's head Angel Maria Villar on corruption allegations led to rumours about the possibility that the Spanish national team could be ruled out of the competition.
