Beirut, Dec 14 (IANS) Lebanese Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil on Thursday proposed establishing an embassy in East Jerusalem, a sign of Lebanon's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.
In a tweet, Bassil said he spoke to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas about "establishing an embassy in Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine," and said the two governments discussed exchanging territory to provide for the establishment of embassies.
Abbas "promised to act quickly to provide property for Lebanon in East Jerusalem", Bassil said.
Arab and Islamic leaders on Wednesday held a special summit in Istanbul to condemn the US for its Jerusalem decision.
During the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit, Lebanon's President Michel Aoun urged the participants to submit a complaint to the UN and the Security Council against Donald Trump's decision.
