Overnight rains break dry cold spell in J&K

Srinagar, Dec 11 (IANS) Overnight rains on Monday broke the dry, cold wave conditions in Jammu and Kashmir as the weather office forecast more rain and snow in the next two days.

The rains both in the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley raised the minimum temperatures and broke the dry cold spell prevailing in the state for a fortnight, a Met official said.

"We are expecting widespread rain in the plains and moderate to heavy snowfall in the higher reaches on Tuesday and Wednesday," he said.

Some places might get a mix of both rain and snow, the Met said.

Minimum temperatures throughout the state improved on Monday as Srinagar and Jammu recorded 3.1 and 11.6 as the night's lowest temperatures, respectively.

It was 1.5 and minus 2.4 in Pahalgam and Gulmarg, respectively.

Leh recorded a minus 3.7 and Kargil 0.1, again showing improvement in minimum temperatures.

Katra recorded 11 degrees Celsius, Batote 5.3, Bannihal 5.2, Bhaderwah 7.4 and Udhampur 11.9.
