45% respondents admit to paying bribe: Online surveyNew Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) About 45 per cent of the respondents admitted that they paid a bribe at least once in the last 12 months in order to get their work done, according to an online survey done by Transparency International India in collaboration with a community-based social network LocalCircles.

The online survey was conducted in 11 states of the country covering 34,696 respondents on their perceptions about "change in levels of corruption over the last 12 months", while 12,964 (about 37 per cent of respondents) surveyed in the 11 states believed that there was an increase in corruption during the period.

According to the survey, around 15,622 persons (about 45 per cent) believed that it remained the same.

 

About 4,873 persons (about 14 per cent) stated that they believed corruption reduced in the same period, while 1,235 (4 per cent) of those polled replied that they can't say about a probable
increase/decrease in corruption levels.

In two separate parallel polls, 51 per cent of the respondents replied that their state did not take any steps in the last one year to reduce corruption, while 45 per cent submitted that they paid a bribe at least once in the last 12 months in order to get their work done, according to the survey.
