La Paz (Bolivia), Dec 8 (IANS) The Bolivian government has approved plans to redevelop the Hernando Siles stadium in La Paz, the country's largest sports venue.
The home of Bolivia's national team will be expanded to accommodate 51,000 spectators, up from 42,000 today, according to Bolivia's official ABI news service, reports Xinhua news agency.
The announcement was made after a meeting between Bolivia's president Evo Morales and officials from local first division clubs Bolivar and the Strongest.
"I'd like it to be (completed) in the short term. From this moment on we are going to work," Morales said.
Built in 1930, the Hernando Siles stadium was revamped in 1977 but has not been upgraded since.
The venue will boast a larger pitch, improved lighting and a more modern seating design, the government said. No details were given about the estimated cost of the project.
