Kolkata, Dec 3 (IANS) East Bengal head coach Khalid Jamil on Sunday said his side conceded a silly goal after they lost 0-1 against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the highly anticipated Kolkata derby in the I-League here on Sunday.
Mohun Bagan centre-back Kingsley Eze scored the decider in the 39th minute to help his side clinch three vital points over East Bengal at a packed Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here.
"We conceded a silly goal. The marking was not proper. It was a total defensive lapse. Whoever was in charge of marking Kingsley inside the box didn't do his job," the 40-year-old was quoted as saying by goal.com.
"It is not about performance. We have lost vital points. Performance is ok but it was important to win and get the points. We also got good chances. Plaza got one chance but could not score. It happens. Strikers may have a bad day where they miss chances," Jamil added.
The former India midfielder later heaped praise on Mohun Bagan and said they played well.
"They played well. We started well but they took over in the middle. Unfortunately, (we) conceded in a set piece. We practised really hard. It was disappointing. But this is football, you have to concentrate," Jamil added.
