New Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS) Some roads in the capital should be made one-way, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal said.
Reviewing measures for decongestion of traffic observed from the "Y" point Salimgarh Bypass to Majnu Ka Tila on Ring Road, he directed all agencies concerned to study a list of short-term, medium-term and long-term measures that were suggested by Public Works Department (PWD), Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), and Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and Special Commissioner of Police, Traffic in a meeting.
Measures included updating people about traffic through FM Radio, websites, app and social media, creation of a contra flow lane, removal of existing small island, and creation of bus-bays.
"There should be road engineering proposals to ensure that no bottlenecks are created when there is merging of traffic," Baijal said.
He directed Delhi Police to ensure that there is real-time information dissemination of the traffic situation to the people through FM radio, traffic police website or apps and social media.
Baijal stated that for better use of foot overbridges (FOBs) and in view of the need of our senior citizens, all of them should mandatorily have lift facilities.
