Kovind pays tribute to Tagore, Subhas Bose

Kolkata, Nov 29 (IANS) President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday visited the residences of Noble laureate Rabindranath Tagore and freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose here and paid his tributes to the two statesmen.

On the second day of his maiden visit to West Bengal after taking over as President, Kovind, accompanied by Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi, went to Tagore's abode in north Kolkata.

 

"Went to pay respects to Gurudev Rabindranath. Was honoured to visit the birthplace of composer of our National Anthem. He remains one of our country's foremost cultural icons," Kovind tweeted.

The President also visited Netaji Bhawan in south Kolkata to pay tribute to Bose where he was presented a book on the Indian National Army chief by author, social worker, ex-MP and Netaji's niece-in-law Krishna Bose.

Kovind said he was moved by the aura of Netaji's sacrifice and dedication to the country. "...Netaji is cherished, remembered and missed to this day all over the country."
