Benfica part ways with goalkeeper Julio Cesar

Lisbon, Nov 29 (IANS) Benfica has terminated the contract of Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar by mutual agreement, the Portuguese football club announced.

Benfica confirmed the termination in a statement on its official website on Tuesday, accompanied by a video on which the goalkeeper says goodbye to his teammates, reports Efe.

"By mutual agreement, Benfica and the goalkeeper Julio Cesar have agreed today, November 28, the termination of the contract that would run until the end of the 2017/18 season," the club said.

Cesar expressed gratitude to his teammates and coaches at the Portuguese club, which he joined in 2014.

In his three seasons at Benfica, the 38-year-old goalkeeper won several trophies, including three Primeira Liga titles and a Portuguese Super Cup.
