Himachal sees mercury below freezing point

Shimla, Nov 26 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh witnessed a sunny but chilly night on Sunday with temperatures in many areas staying below freezing point.

"It was a sunny day across the state with chances of rain and snow at some places in the state on November 28," an official of the meteorological office told IANS.

He said Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, was the coldest with a minimum temperature of minus 2.9 degree Celsius.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district was close to the freezing point at 0.4 degrees, while the temperature was one degree in Manali and 7.2 degrees in Dharamsala.

Shimla's night temperature was 7.1 degrees Celsius, while the maximum was 17.2 degrees.

The Met Office has forecast rain in mid hills on November 28 due to active western disturbance, or storm systems generated in the Mediterranean and bringing rain or snow in the northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent.
