Court allows police to quiz man in 9-year-old caseNew Delhi, Nov 20 (IANS) A court here on Monday allowed Delhi Police to quiz a man in a nine-year-old tax fraud case and allowed remanding of the accused to police custody till November 22.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra remanded Chandershekhar to two-day police custody after he surrendered himself in the court.

On November 9, a sessions court had dismissed his anticipatory bail plea.

 

The Delhi Police has alleged that the accused had created false documents to cheat the Income Tax Department for claiming a tax refund around 2008.

Chandershekhar's counsel Vishal Vimal and Ram Avtar opposed the custodial interrogation, saying no purpose would be served as the case was nine year's old and the accused had joined the investigation whenever required.

The police have alleged that Chandershekhar, now 40, is a news vendor in east Delhi and had got prepared the PAN card of one Banwari and obtained income tax refund in his name although he was not entitled to claim such refund.

The police have booked him under various sections relating to cheating and forgery.
