NGT asks NTPC how much crop residue can be used for power generation

New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday directed National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to inform it of the amount of crop residue in pellet form or otherwise that can be used as raw material along with coal in power plants across Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

The tribunal also asked about its total coal intake in six of its power plants in Uttar Pradesh and one in Haryana.

It also asked Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to take legal instructions on viability of plants that would collect agriculture residue and convert it into source of fuel.

The NGT bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar passed these directions while hearing the plea on stubble burning.
