New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS) The Border Security Force (BSF), in collaboration with Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF), is organising the 'Martyrs Ride from India Gate here to Gateway of India in Mumbai to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice made by armed forces and police personnel during the dastardly terrorist-attack in Mumbai in 2008.
As many as 30 BSF men, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and a handful of civilians set off from here on Tuesday and will complete their 1,450 km journey on their cycles on November 26, the very day the attacks had begun in Mumbai.
They were flagged off by BSF Director General K.K. Sharma who has been very supportive towards para-sports and will be playing an integral part in AMF's 'Mission 2020' which aims to send 100 para-athletes for the Paralympics.
The AMF, headed by para-cyclist Aditya Mehta, has embarked on similar rides earlier too to raise funds for para-athletes in the country.
He has reached out to armed forces personnel this time with the aim of motivating soldiers who have lost limbs in the line of duty to take up para-sports.
The cyclists covered 140 kilometres on the first day and reached Behror in Rajasthan to regain their breath for the strenuous ride ahead.
Their next stop will be at Jaipur, 127 kilometres away. They will then depart for Ajmer (135 kms), Deogarh (109 kms) and Udaipur (131 kms) in that order. They hope to complete this leg in five days before they take a day off to recover.
On November 20, they will set off once again to cover 613 kilometres, again in five days, before their second break in Palghar.
They will resume their journey on November 25 and will arrive at the Gateway of India on Martyrs' Day, that is November 26, the day the attacks had begun.
