Two held for lynching Muslim in Alwar

Jaipur, Nov 14 (IANS) Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Muslim man by cow vigilantes in Rajasthan's Alwar district and sent to three-day police custody, a police officer said on Tuesday.

The two -- Bhagwan Singh and Ramveer Gurjar -- were arrested late on Monday and have been sent to police custody for three days by a magistrate court in Laxmangarh in Alwar district, Mool Singh Rana, Additional Superintendent of Police, Alwar, told IANS.

He said the police is now searching for at least four others involved in the crime, adding that special teams have been formed to trace them.

Cow vigilantes had allegedly thrashed and then shot dead Umar Khan and injured another person in Govindgarh on suspicion of cow smuggling.

The incident took place on Friday morning when three persons were transporting some cows to a village in Bharatpur region.

"They were stopped near Govindgarh by some gau rakshakas and attacked," sources close to the family said.

One of the persons, Umar, about 35 years old, died in firing while the other sustained bullet injuries. Umar Khan's dismembered body was found on the railway tracks near Govindgarh later in the day.
