Mexico City releases $6 mn for quake reconstruction

Mexico City, Nov 13 (IANS) The Mexico City government has released 117.6 million pesos (over $6 million) for immediate use toward reconstruction after the September 19 earthquake, Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera has said.

He added the city government had also received $750,000 for reconstruction from the US-based Rockefeller Foundation, Xinhua reported

Providing a roundup on actions to help the city, Mancera said that health personnel had visited 382,260 homes to check for damage and had delivered 362,044 vaccines.

Four people also remain in hospital, according to Mancera on Twitter.

The 7.1-magnitude earthquake killed 369 people nationwide, including 228 in the Mexican capital, where it brought down 38 buildings. Besides, 5,765 homes were affected including 2,273 which were totally destroyed.

While the capital was the worst-hit part of Mexico, the earthquake also took lives and damaged infrastructure in the state of Mexico, Morelos, Puebla, Guerrero and Oaxaca.
