Students make human chain in UP against plastic use

Lucknow, Nov 10 (IANS) Over 10,000 students from various educational institutions formed a human chain in Uttar Pradesh's Vrindavan on Friday to express solidarity with the ban on polythene use and to make people aware of its negative effects on the environment.

The human chain was 10.5 km long and was made at Parikrama Marg in the holy town which draws millions of Krishna devotees every year.

State Principal Secretary (Tourism) Avaneesh Kumar Awasthi told IANS that this was an effort to "sensitise people through the young generation to conserve nature and also keep the religious places clean".

A total of 10,700 students from 32 educational institutions took part in the event. The National Green Tribunal has already banned polythene use in Vrindavan.
