Manila, Nov 10 (IANS) Around 200 demonstrators gathered outside the American embassy here to protest US President Donald Trump's upcoming visit to the Philippines.
The protestors, summoned by local Left-wing groups, held up a large banner saying "Ban Trump, Fight against the imperialist war and looting" in addition to displaying posters and shouting slogans against the US President, Efe news reported.
Trump, who is currently in Da Nang, in Vietnam, attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, will arrive in Manila on Sunday to participate in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit and the East Asia Summit.
The Philippines is Trump's last stop in his five-nation tour through Asia which has taken him to Japan, South Korea and China.
Friday's protest saw minor scuffles between demonstrators and police officers, although no injuries were reported.
Protest organisers promised massive demonstrations in Manila from the day of Trump's arrival on Sunday until his departure on November 14.
They said they would be joined by more than 500 farmers and representatives of the Muslim community in the conflict-ridden island of Mindanao who have rejected alleged US military and economic interference in the region.
Philippines authorities, meanwhile, will deploy about 60,000 police officers and soldiers during the Asean summit.
