No sexual harassment of Al Qaeda man: Tihar Jail to court

New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) A Tihar Jail official has told a court here that sexual harassment allegations raised by suspected Al Qaeda operative and British national Samiun Rahman are not true.

"It is only prudent to mention here that the allegations levelled by the prisoner (Rahman) are just an endeavour to ... browbeat the prison administration," the jail official said in a reply filed before a Sessions Court on Wednesday.

In his reply, a copy of which was made available to the media on Thursday, the official told the court: "This can only be termed as efficient skulduggery adopted by criminals to bring themselves to limelight ... with perilous ulterior motives."

Rahman, 27, arrested on charges of radicalizing Rohingyas to fight the Myanmar Army, last week told a court that he had been sexually harassed in Tihar Jail.

Rahman, lodged in Jail No. 1, said that on November 2, five security personnel came to see him in the jail and touched his body parts inappropriately and told him to strip.

Rahman was arrested in Delhi on September 17.

Police have said his mission was to set up base in Manipur or Mizoram and radicalize Rohingya Muslims to fight the Myanmar military.

The accused was in India for the past two months under fake identity. An operative of Al Qaeda for the last four years, he had received a three-month arms training in Syria and fought in Alleppo, officials said.

The police said Rahman's father, hailing from Bangladesh, was a businessman in London and his brother and three sisters also worked in London.
