Surender Kumar of Jheel Khurenja area informed Police Control Room on August 9 about the theft of 20-carat jewellery he had bought from his savings made over the last 21 years for his daughter's marriage in March 2018.
"(Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji, I dedicated my entire life for the country as a postmaster and remained so for 35 years. I never cared whether it was summer or winter. My wife passed away on August 23 due to trauma due to theft at our house as she had kept the jewellery for our daughter's marriage but it was stolen by unidentified neighbours on August 9," Surender Kumar said in letters to the PMO and MHA.
"When I realised that Geeta Colony police will not register a theft case, letters to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister (Rajnath Singh) were my only hope. On August 12, I wrote letters to them to plead for help and intervene," the retired postmaster told IANS.
"Modi ji, you said good days will come. Since I am poor, police is not taking my case seriously. This is your 'sapnon ka Bharat' (India of your dreams). You have done good work on Goods and Services Tax and demonetisation, but thieves robbed me of my savings of 36 years. Now, I have lost almost everything," he wrote in a letter to te PMO, which forms a part of the FIR.
Surender Kumar, 62, had worked at the Post Office headquarters at the ITO and retired two years ago.
He said though an FIR was registered, he had lost hope that police will arrest the thives and restore his stolen jewelery to him. He said he is working as an insurance agent to save some money for his daughter's impending marriage.
