‘2.7 lakh LED streetlights installed in Delhi’

New Delhi, Nov 2 (IANS) State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) on Wedenesday said it has installed around 2.7 lakh LED streetlights in the capital under the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP).

"With the aim to achieve overall reduction in energy consumption of street lighting and to make municipal lighting services better, a total of 2,72,000 streetlights have been installed in Delhi under the programme," Prabhat Kumar, Programme Manager at EESL, told media here.

"This saved around 26.5 million energy units in the year 2016-2017 and consequently helped in saving Rs 21 crore," he said, adding the measure was a result of the agreement between EESL, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited in January 2015, targeting replacement of 1.98 lakh conventional street lights with energy efficient LED street lights in the 104 wards of SDMC.

All these LED lights in the four zones -- West, Central, South and Najafgarh -- are being remotely controlled and monitored with the help of Central Control and Monitoring System.

"Accessories such as damaged brackets, clamps and wires with multiple joints have also been replaced," Kumar said.
