Gwalior, Oct 30 (IANS) As many as 50 women fell sick after getting a vaccine at the maternity ward of a hospital in this Madhya Pradesh city, authorities said on Monday.
The incident took place at Kamla Raja Hospital. The women complained of fever and five of them had to be admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU).
Family members of one of the victims said the women got antibiotic injections late on Sunday and soon after complained of feeling cold and were found to have fever. Doctors were informed but asked the women to wait for the symptoms to subside.
But when the condition of the women started deteriorating, the families created a ruckus and this forced the hospital staff to attend to them. Five of the patients were taken to the ICU.
Hospital Superintendent Sanjay Chandel told the media that the women were administered ampicillin injection and that a probe is on.
