Theatre, films have their own thrill: Vicky Kaushal

Mumbai, Oct 27 (IANS) Actor Vicky Kaushal, who has been caught up in back-to-back shoots for his films, is happy to be able to get refreshed with a unique play being staged here on Friday.

He says performing as part of a theatre production has a thrill unique from facing the camera.

"Both the platforms have their own fun and thrill. Theatre is purely an actor's medium. The director may direct an act a certain way, but it is ultimately what the actor performs that the audience sees.

"Even if the act goes wrong, it is upto the actor to salvage the act. Whereas, films are a director's medium. A movie can be moulded the way a director wants," Vicky told IANS.

He is a part of "36 Ghante", a unique show. He came to know about the play, writer, director and co-actor only 12 hours before it was staged.

Vicky, who has featured in films like "Masaan" and "Raman Raghav 2.0", has dabbled in theatre earlier. But "36 Ghante" particularly caught his attention because it was conceptually different and not very time consuming.

The initiative is by Rage Productions. It is also a fundraiser for theatre, and all collections from ticket sales are to be given to those who work behind the scenes.

It is this reason also why Vicky wanted to make his little contribution.

Vicky, whose new projects include "Raazi", the Sanjay Dutt biopic and a movie on the surgical strikes conducted after the Uri attack, said as an actor there's a lot to take away from a theatre performance.

"When you perform live in front of an audience, it makes you more aware of your instincts. It definitely helps you to be a better actor in cinema, but even cinema has its own challenge.

"Sometimes, the camera is so close, that the audience is able to see every movement and emotion very closely. So, I'd say both mediums have their own thrill."
