Jayalalithaa death inquiry panel assures transparent probe

Chennai, Oct 27 (IANS) Justice (retd) A. Arumughaswamy, who heads the one man inquiry commission looking into the circumstances leading to hospitalisation of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and her treatment, on Friday assured the probe will be transparent.

He was speaking to the media here as the commission began its work.

A notification seeking information from those who have any knowledge about Jayalalithaa's death was also issued.

In the order setting up the commission, the Tamil Nadu government had set out its terms of reference as: "To inquire into the circumstances and situation leading to the hospitalisation of the late Hon'ble Chief Minister on 22.9.2016 and subsequent treatment provided till her unfortunate demise on 5.12.2016".

It has been asked to submit its report in three months time.

Ever since Jayalalithaa's death, there have been hints of foul play in her death, with critics pointing fingers at her aide, the now jailed V.K. Sasikala.

The AIADMK camp of Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam had laid down a probe into the death as one of its demands before merging the faction with that led by Chief Minister E. Palaniswami.
