New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) A batch of 40 security personnel deployed at the Parliament House Complex on Friday completed a special five-day training programme to respond to threats emerging from the use of Chemical, Biological and Nuclear (CBRN) material.
Conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the training programme began on October 23 and concluded on Friday.
Member, NDMA, R.K. Jain said CBRN emergencies have become a reality in today's world. "It is important to prepare our security personnel to deal with such exigencies effectively."
Underlining the need for CBRN training, D.N. Sharma, member NDMA, said advance planning, preparedness and an effective response strategy would equip us to deal with such eventualities holistically.
"The training programme aimed at improving the preparedness of Parliament House Complex (PHC) security staff to respond to threats emerging from the use of CBRN material," a Home Ministry statement said.
The programme consisted of lectures, live demonstrations of detection and decontamination as well as the use of personal protective equipment, the statement said, adding the participants were also trained in basic life support, triage and casualty carrying techniques.
So far, more than 800 security staff have been trained to handle CBRN emergencies, the statement said.
"Participants were also given hands-on training by way of a mock drill in a simulated CBRN scenario by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at its 8th Battalion base in Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh). Working of a HazMat (Hazardous Material) vehicle was also demonstrated to the participants at the Delhi Fire Services Training Centre at Rohini (Delhi)," it added.
