Mumbai, Oct 26 (IANS) Two persons, including a fire fighter, were injured when a massive fire broke out as a gas cylinder exploded during demolition of unauthorised constructions in a slum here on Friday afternoon, officials said.
According to the BMC Disaster Control, 16 fire tenders and 17 water tankers were rushed to the spot of the blaze in Behrampada slums in Bandra east to douse the flames, the thick black smoke from which was visible for several kilometres.
The other injured was a local resident. Both were taken to a hospital and are now out of danger.
The incident resulted in a disruption of services on the Harbour Line which were suspended briefly as a precautionary measure.
The authorities also blocked commuters from using the skywalk near the station, while a massive traffic jam was witnessed on the Western Express Highway.
Efforts are on to extinguish the fire which has been contained, said the officials.
