Failed Noida mall looter held after Ghaziabad gunfight

Ghaziabad, Oct 25 (IANS) A robber, who injured a security guard in a failed robbery attempt at a mall in Noida early on Wednesday, was nabbed in Ghaziabad after a gunfight, police said.

The criminal, identified as Rizwan from Bulandshahr, was arrested after a brief exchange of fire near Shoprix Mall in Vaishali area here in the afternoon.

Rizwan had attempted to rob a cash van at Spice mall in Noida's Sector 25 but failed and fled.

Around 1 p.m., a police patrol noticed two men acting suspiciously and stopped them for questioning. Instead of replying, Rizwan started firing at the police and tried to flee. But the alert policemen retaliated. He sustained two bullet injuries while sub inspector Bhupendra Singh also got injured.

His accomplice succeeded in fleeing.

Rizwan was admitted to GTB hospital while the injured policeman was taken to MAX hospital in Vaishali.

According to police, Rizwan was a repeat offender and would commit crimes in Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar, police said.

A .315 bore home-made pistol and four live cartridges along with a white coloured Apache motorcycle were recovered from his possession.
