Four criminals lynched in Bihar

Patna, Oct 24 (IANS) Four criminals were beaten to death by a mob in a Bihar village on Tuesday, police said.

The incident took place in Rohtas district when the four were trying to flee after opening fire at a man in Koath area, said police officer Alok Kumar.

The four sought to extort money from Arun Choudhary, husband of a District Council member of Rohtas. When he refused to pay, they fired at him but missed him. The bullet hit another man who got injured, Kumar said.

"After hearing the sound of gunshots, locals rushed to the site and chased the four. All four were beaten to death with bricks and bamboo sticks."

Police said the identity of the victims of lynching -- all of them in their early 20s -- was not known.

Over two dozen lynching incidents have been reported this year in Bihar.
