Delhi Classical Music Fest to feature top names

New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) With the aim to promote the capitals art and cultural heritage, the Sahitya Kala Parishad and the Department of Art, Culture and Languages of the Delhi government will be hosting "Delhi Classical Music Festival" where noted Indian vocalists will participate.

The five-day music festival which begins October 25 and is being held at Kamani Auditorium will begin with the performance by Padma Shri Parveen Sultan who is known for her khayal, thumri, bhajan and ghazals. Murad Ali Khan, Fateh Ali khan will also perform on the same day.

Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Ranjendra Prasanna and Ajay Prasanna will be gracing the stage on the second day of the festival. Delhi Ratan Awardee Akram Khan will be performing on the third day followed by Bhuvanesh Komkali, Bahauddin Dagger,and Prof. M Venkatesh Kumar.

Padma Shri Pandit Madhup Mudgal will mesmerise the audience with his brilliant compositions on the fourth day along with Nishad Bakre who will be accompanied by Kishor Pande on the Tabla and Vinay Mishra on the Harmonium. Santoor maestros Abhay Sopori and Bhajan Sopori will also perform on the same day. Pandit Jasraj will be performing on the concluding day along with Ustad Shujaat Khan.

"The Delhi Classical Music Festival is a great platform for artists, listeners and lovers of classical music to immerse in the beauty of the raags. This year the festival brings together established as well as emerging artists from Delhi and other states. People of Delhi will get a chance to listen to a varied range, from the ancient rudraveena to jugalbadhis by youngsters," Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, said in a statement.
