BJP, Congress name Brahmin candidates for Chitrakoot by-poll

Bhopal, Oct 23 (IANS) The BJP and Congress have selected Brahmin candidates for the Chitrakoot Assembly by-poll, keeping in mind the caste-equation of the constituency in Madhya Pradesh.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared Shankar Dayal Tripathi as its candidate, the Congress announced the name of Nilanshu Trivedi.

Both candidates are to file their nomination on Monday.

The Election Commission had said that October 23 is the last date for filing nominations, while October 26 is the last day for withdrawing forms. Polling will be held on November 9.

The seat, considered a Congress stronghold, fell vacant after the death of party legislator Prem Singh.
