Kolkata, Oct 18 (IANS) Reiterating their commitment to help the victims of sexual harassment, Kolkata Police said they are perturbed by the number of women joining the international #metoo campaign that has taken the social media by storm over the past few days.
In the campaign that became viral since the case of sexual harassment against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein came into the public domain, both women and men are writing these two words as an admission of the sexual harassment they faced.
Terming the number of women participating in the campaign as shocking, the Kolkata Police took to their official Facebook page on Tuesday to urge them to strongly oppose any form of sexual abuse and encouraged them to report to police, every time such incident occurs.
"We urge you to be strong, we want you to be very, very angry about the leering, jeering, threats, verbal and physical abuses. We are asking you to be not afraid and to report to the police every time," the post said.
The police also assured that they would listen to the experiences of a sexual harassment victim with patience and kindness and take down their complaints.
The #metoo campaign, spurred on by American actress Alyssa Milano on Monday, have become a huge hit in the social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, where people are participating to highlight the overwhelming magnitude of the problem.
