Businessman jumps into Yamuna, rescued

New Delhi, Oct 16 (IANS) Under depression due to a prolonged ailment, a 52-year old businessman attempted suicide by jumping into Yamuna river from 30 feet high DND flyway, but was rescued, a police officer said on Monday.

Police said Police Control Room received a call at about 4.15 p.m. from a motorist on the flyway connecting Delhi and Noida, saying he had seen a man jump off the bridge.

"We alerted the Delhi Boat Club, the Fire Department and the local police," a police officer told IANS.

"All teams reached the spot with safety equipment immediately and pulled out the victim, Sanjay Arora, within 15 minutes."

Arora, a resident of a highrise tower in Noida Sector 93, has been under depression from the last one and half years due to some medical condition. "He was under medication following which he did not want to live anymore," the officer added.

On Monday, Arora, who owns a garments business, walked to the expressway to commit suicide. He did not write a suicide note on him, the official said, adding his wife and other family members have been called to counsel him.
