New Delhi, Oct 13 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said certain states and regions are lagging due to governance-deficit and urged Governors to facilitate greater effectiveness of government initiatives.
Speaking at the closing session of the Conference of Governors at Rashtrapati Bhawan here, Modi said India did not lack in ideas, resources and capabilities, "but certain states and regions have lagged behind due to a governance-deficit".
He said that various government schemes for the benefit of the poor were better implemented in areas where there was good governance, an official statement said.
In order to strengthen the unity and integrity of India, Governors should involve themselves in initiatives such as "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat" and "Run for Unity", Modi added.
He also thanked the Governors for the various inputs given during the course of the two-day conference.
