Birchandra Manu (Tripura), Oct 12 (IANS) The BJP-led central government is trying to push their Hindutva agenda to divert people's attention from their failed economic policies and mis-governance, CPI-M leader Prakash Karat said here on Thursday.
"People are rejecting the anti-people economic policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government. The Narendra Modi government has miserably failed to govern the country. Hence, it is trying to divert people's mind with the Hindutva agenda," Karat said while addressing a public gathering here.
"The BJP and RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) have been fomenting communal trouble in Kerala, Tripura, West Bengal and other places. They are targeting the Left parties, especially the CPI-M, as it is the only party successfully fighting against the wrong economic policies and mis-governance."
The public meeting was organised to observe the 30th Martyrs' Day on Thursday to commemorate the massacre of 12 Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leaders and two of their security personnel on October 12, 1988 in southern Tripura's Birchandra Manu, 85 km south of Tripura's capital city Agartala.
Karat said the BJP government's economic and other policies were against workers, labourers, employees, Dalits, farmers, tribals, youth and women.
"If BJP remains in power, they will completely destroy the future of the youth. BJP had pledged to create two crore new jobs for the youth, but in the entire three-and-a-half years only 150,000 new jobs have been given, mostly in private sector."
Terming the RSS as anti-national, the Left leader said during the freedom movement RSS' main enemies were Communists and Muslims as their aim was to establish a Hindu Rashtra.
Karat said from November 3, party workers from across the country would hold sit-in demonstrations in Delhi for three days to highlight the BJP's anti-worker policies and governance.
CPI-M Politburo member and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in his address said suicides by farmers had increased by 40 to 42 per cent in the three-and-a-half year rule of the Modi government.
He said: "The people of Independent India have never seen such an anti-people and dictatorial government in the country. This is the opportune time to overthrow them and install an alternative governance in the country."
