Bengal covering up dengue outbreak as ‘unknown fever’: Left Front

Kolkata, Oct 11 (IANS) Accusing the West Bengal government of trying to cover up the dengue outbreak in the state as "unknown fever", Left Front legislative party leader Sujan Chakraborty on Wednesday wrote to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urging her to take necessary action in the case.

Mentioning that more than a 100 people from North 24 Parganas, Midnapore, Kolkata and north Bengal have died of Dengue already, Chakraborty claimed that the disease have taken the form of an epidemic in the state.

"It is unfortunate that the state government is trying to hide its inefficiency in controlling the dengue outbreak by terming the decease as an unknown fever. They are not taking any initiatives to prevent it," he alleged.

Chakraborty also urged the government to seek immediate help from central organisations and World Health Organisation (WHO) in finding a way to prevent and cure the disease, if they do not have the necessary infrastructure to do so themselves.

"Putting common people's life at risk like this is an unforgivable offence and equivalent to murder. The people of the state are being victims of improper treatment while the doctors are also at a fix as they cannot mention Dengue on the prescription even if it is identified.Such a situation is not expected in the state," he added.
