Officials at the DTTDC office in Pitampura saw the venomous snake coiled up behind a cupboard and immediately called the animal welfare organisation Wildlife SOS at their 24-hour rescue helpline (9871963535).
"I was shocked to discover the large cobra inside my office room. As I am familiar with Wildlife SOS and their wildlife rescue hotline, I immediately contacted their team for help," said Assistant Engineer, Deepak Kumar Saxena.
The snake is currently under observation after which it will be released in its natural habitat.
Delhi is home to about 13 species of snakes, of which only two -- the common cobra and common krait -- are venomous. The others are Royal snake, Wolf snake, Rat snake, Common Sand Boa, Red Sand Boa, Common Kukri, Cat snake, Rock Python, Bronzeback Tree Snake, Leith's Sand Snake and Checkered keelback.
