Jammu, Oct 5 (IANS) The Army on Thursday averted a major terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor area by detecting an improvised explosive device (IED) and two landmines, a Defence Ministry statement said.
"Alertness and vigilance of Army personnel helped in averting the strike," the statement said.
"On Wednesday night, the sentries observed suspicious movement close to an Army Unit Location near the Akhnoor market.
"A response mechanism was activated wherein the entire area was cordoned off and deliberate search operation was conducted.
"During the area sanitisation process, the security forces recovered the IED and two mines. Combing operations are in progress in the area," the statement added.
