States told to check food adulteration: Paswan

New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS) Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Wednesday said he has written to Chief Ministers of all states asking them to take measures to check food adulteration and sale of substandard jewellery during the festive season.

"This is festive season and people buy a lot of sweets as well as jewellery. But in these days, cases of food adulteration and selling of substandard jewellery also go up," Paswan said here.

"I have written to all Chief Ministers to curb food adulteration and ensure BIS hallmarking of jewellery."

He also said that prices of consumer goods are under control and the common man is feeling relieved.

The letter sent to the Chief Ministers said that the central government is implementing a scheme through the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) of hallmarking of jewellery to curb substandard jewellery.

"To ensure that the consumers get superior quality of jewellery for their money and food adulteration is checked, I request you to accordingly intimate the departments and officials concerned," it said.
