Goa Congress demands casino security review

Panaji, Oct 4 (IANS) The Congress in Goa demanded a security review of the state's numerous casinos in the wake of Sunday night's massacre at a Las Vegas concert in which at least 58 people were killed and over 500 injured.

"The government must quickly take measures and review the security of casinos in Goa. We, as a party, do not support casinos but the hundreds of thousands of people who go to those must be protected," Goa Congress President Shantaram Naik told reporters at a press conference here on Wednesday.

"The casino owners may not be interested in providing them security but it is the duty of the state to ensure that the safety of the patrons is not compromised," Naik said.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has already ruled out a security review of the five offshore and nine onshore casinos in the coastal state in light of the Mandalay Bay casino hotel shoot-out, saying guns are easily available in Las Vegas, as compared to Goa.

In one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history, a gunman in a high-rise hotel in Las Vegas opened fire on a huge outdoor concert festival on Sunday night, killing at least 58 people and injuring over 500.
