Real Madrid’s Marcelo being investigated for alleged tax fraud

Madrid, Oct 3 (IANS) Spanish tax agency AEAT on Tuesday launched a tax investigation against Real Madrid's defender Marcelo for an alleged tax offence dating from 2013 and related to his image rights, totalling 400,000 euros ($470,000).

The Brazilian footballer had settled this case back in 2015, but it was not handled properly, according to information from Spanish media confirmed by Efe.

The AEAT pointed out that the prior settlement was based on corporate tax provisions and not as individual income, thus infringing Spanish tax regulations.

The case is now in the hands of the state's financial prosecution, which will decide if there was intention to commit fraud or not.
