Honest youths should join politics: Anna Hazare

New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS) Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare on Tuesday said there was a need for honest and principled youths to join politics to rid the country of corruption.

Hazare said that while the youth should enter politics to take the nation forward, they need to lead a life of principles, and honest conduct and thinking.

"They should also be ready to make sacrifices for the country," Hazare said at the launch of a book "The Black Tiger" authored by Srijan Pal Singh at the Constitution Club of India here.

Hazare had, on Monday, written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the latter had no intention of eradicating corruption that had "increased during his rule".

Advising the youth to maintain a good character, Hazare said he was able to take on even the biggest of Indian politicians because he had not let any blot on his character even at the age of 80.

"If that had not been the case, they would have broken me," he said.

Taking a dig at the 2014 poll promise of putting Rs 15 lakh in each account from the black money brought from abroad, the social activist said the government had failed to bring such money back to the country.

Stating that Srijan Pal Singh's book on corruption could serve as an inspiration for the youth, Hazare said India could also learn from experiences quoted in it of other countries which brought back black money stashed abroad.

Quoting the book, he said corruption in the legal system was the most dangerous form of corruption because "if people are unable to get justice from the legal system, where would they go".
