Karnataka civil servant turns back into doctor on Gandhi Jayanti

Kolar (Karnataka), Oct 2 (IANS) In a tribute to the father of the nation on his 148th birth anniverary, Kolar Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilok Chandra again became a doctor and treated about 100 patients on Monday.

"As Chandra is a medical doctor by trainingn, he checked about 100 patients, including women and children at the government hospital in Kolar and prescribed medicines for their treatment," his personal secretary Prasad told IANS on phone.

Kolar, about 100km from Bengaluru, is a backward district in the state.

Donning a white apron and armed with a stethoscope, the 40-year-old Chandra was at the hospital for over two hours after participating in the official function to mark the National event at the district administration office in the town.

"This is the second consecutive year Chandra marked the day by engaging in public service as a doctor, though he unable to practice regularly due to administrative duties," added Prasad.

The 2007 batch IAS officer has been posted in Kolar since 2013.

Chandra was not reachable for his comments.
