An evening of sitar and strokes

An evening of sitar and strokesNew Delhi, Oct 1 (IANS) It was a unique performance that left the viewers mesmerised as they witnessed a beautiful juxtaposition of sitar and painting on the same platform.

While it was the rhythmic compositions by Grammy nominated sitar player Ustad Shujaat Khan that swayed the listeners at the Sri Sathya Sai Auditorium here on Sunday, the simultaneous strokes by child prodigy Aarav Verma amazed the viewers.

Presented by The Raj Art Initiative and curated by Perfect Harmony Productions, "Strings Inspire Strokes", featured the resonance of the sitar immaculately intertwining with the multihued strokes on a blank canvas.

One of the greatest North Indian classical musicians of his generation, Shujaat Khan hails from the Imdad Khan gharana of the sitar and his style of playing is known as the "gayaki ang". He was nominated for Grammy Awards for the best world music album.

"It is the first time ever that a collaboration of this nature will be cherished and celebrated and we are excited to see these two generations mesmerize the spectators through their craft", said Sumeet Nath, founder of The Raj Art.
