Berlin, Sep 30 (IANS) German football club Cologne has reinforced their attack with the signing of veteran striker Claudio Pizzaro on a free transfer.
The former Werder Bremen striker has put to paper on a deal until the end of the season, the struggling Bundesliga club announced on Friday, reports Xinhua news agency.
"Claudio Pizzaro is a striker with a strong finish and a personality that fits perfectly into our team," Cologne's head coach Peter Stoeger told the club's official homepage.
The 39-year-old Peruvian knows the Bundesliga very well as he played for Werder Bremen as well as Bayern Munich. He made overall 430 appearances and provided 191 goals, which is an all-time high for a foreign player.
"Cologne is a club with tradition and I would like to help the club with my qualities and my experience in the current situation," Pizzaro said.
Cologne sit currently at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings. They still wait for their first win after suffering five consecutive defeats in a row.
Cologne encounter sixth-placed Leipzig in the seventh round on Sunday.
