New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) Pesident Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday greeted people on Dussehra, stressing the festival symbolises the victory of good over evil.
In his message, the President said the festival signifies triumph of ethical and moral values.
"The festival of Dussehra signifies the victory of good over evil and the power of ethical and moral values. These values are of universal appeal and have great relevance for all mankind today," Kovind said.
He said the festival, celebrated in different parts of the country as well as overseas, is an expression of the "shared values and culture of our great nation".
"It reminds us of the human and social values related to the life of Lord Rama. The ideal character of Lord Rama teaches the lessons of dedication to duty, morality and social service to all of us," he said, adding that we should "resolve to make our contribution to building an ideal family, society, country and the world while fighting against all evils".
In his message, Naidu said the festival conveys the eternal message that good always triumphs over evil.
"Dussehra reminds us of the victory of good over evil and reaffirms our faith in the noble and virtuous life of Lord Rama. Dussehra celebrations not only convey the eternal message that good always triumphs over evil, but also play an important role in promoting amity and camaraderie amongst the people," he said.
"May this festival bring peace, harmony and prosperity in the nation," he added.
