New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS) The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has created a new division to focus on all non-commercial operational activities and providing hassle-free services on the national highways, it was announced on Wednesday.

Headed by its Member (Administration), the Highway Operation Division will be responsible for electronic tolling, wayside amenities, road safety and security, traffic management and providing other modern amenities like WiFi on the national highways.

The division would also be responsible for tracking of ambulances and cranes on the highways as well as highway plantation, road lighting and sanitation, said a statement from the Road Transport and Highways Ministry.

"NHAI has constructed nearly 30,000 kms world-class national highways and has another 20,000 kms scheduled for completion in the next couple of years" which will make it the third largest highways network in the world, the statement said.

It added that this achievement signals the need to focus on highway operations for rendering world class services to the highway users for which the NHAI has created the new division.

"This division will focus on all non-commercial highway operational activities for efficient network utilisation and providing hassle-free services," it said.
