New Delhi, Sep 26 (IANS) Aiming to keep pace with the global rollout of 5G, the Indian government has set up a High Level 5G India 2020 Forum, Communications Minister Manoj Sinha said here on Tuesday.
"We want to keep pace with the global technology adoption. India does not want to stay behind in 5G rollout. That is the reason we have constituted this committee," Sinha said here at a press meet.
"The 5G India Forum will enhance GDP, create employment and digitise the economy," he added.
The government is trying to create a corpus of Rs 500 crore for 5G rollout.
The High Level 5G Forum will have on board three secretaries from the Department of Telecommunications, IT and Electronics and Science and Technologies Ministries.
The term of reference of the forum are vision mission and goals for the 5G India 2020; evaluate, approve roadmaps and action plans for 5G 2020; early deployment of 5G in India and a globally competitive product development and manufacturing ecosystem targetting 50 per cent of India market and 10 per cent of global market over next five to seven years.
The forum will complement the eco-system by focused actions in research ecosystem, regulatory framework and inclusive business environment.
It will constitute a number of Steering Committees in different domains.
Sinha further said: "5G will provide better broadband connection."
Talking about the call drop issue, the minister said the Telecom Secretary will take stock of the matter every 15 days.
